The Khazanah Residency Programme aims to develop young Malaysian talents in selected disciplines by equipping them with the latest knowledge, skills and network in their respective fields. Programmes are chosen from established short-term residencies, fellowships or courses run by world renowned institutions. Participants selected for the programme, are required to pay it forward in various forms upon their completion to benefit Malaysians at large.

Khazanah’s continued support for the residency programme is aligned with our enhanced focus of building capacity and vibrant communities among Malaysians under our strategic imperative of Advancing Malaysia.

There are three programmes currently running under this initiative namely the Khazanah Media Fellowship, Khazanah Arts Residency and Khazanah Public Service Residency. Beginning 2023, the Khazanah Design Residency (run in 2018 and 2019) will be replaced with Khazanah Sustainability Residency, in line with Khazanah’s sustainability goals and global megatrends. Up till January 2023, a total of 44 emerging Malaysian talents have benefited from attending various residency programmes under our helm.

The Khazanah Nasional Associate Artist Residency Programme aims to expose Malaysian emerging artists to the international art scene and in turn, expand their experience, works and connections globally, and provide our local artists the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and develop new work. To date, the six emerging artists that went for the art residency have had a “life-changing” experience during their time in London and have been showcasing their works at respective exhibitions.

The Wolfson Press Fellowship offers an opportunity for Malaysian media practitioners to become a better, well-rounded journalist in their work, and ultimately contribute towards nation-building in a more meaningful way. Since 2013, we have been a partner of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, where we sponsor two Malaysian journalists and one Khazanah or Khazanah-linked company employee for the programme every year. To date, 20 Khazanah-sponsored participants have benefited from this fellowship.

The Khazanah Public Service Residency is meant to provide opportunities for aspiring leaders in the Malaysian public service to develop their leadership competencies and contribute back to their respective ministries in a meaningful manner. Since 2018, Khazanah partners with Razak School of Government (RSOG) in delivering this 3-week programme conducted by Australia & New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. To date, four public servants from various government ministries have attended this programme.
