Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak appointed to Khazanah Board of Directors
Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak to its Board of Directors, effective 1 September 2014. Nazir is currently the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Group. In line with the CIMB Group’s leadership transition plan as announced by CIMB earlier today, he will relinquish his position as Group CEO and assume the role of Chairman of the Group on 1 September 2014.
Nazir has had a distinguished 25-year career in the CIMB Group. He joined CIMB Investment Bank’s corporate finance department in 1989. In 1993 he was transferred to the group’s stockbroking arm where he rose to Executive Director before moving back to CIMB Investment Bank as Deputy Chief Executive on 1 June 1996. He was appointed CIMB Investment Bank’s Group Chief Executive on 1 June 1999 and has served as the Group’s CEO for over 15 years. Under his stewardship CIMB was transformed into a leading ASEAN Universal Bank following a series of banking acquisitions in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
Alongside being on the boards of various CIMB Group companies, Nazir is a member of the Employees Provident Fund’s Investment Panel and Chairman of the Investment Panel Risk Committee. He is also Trustee of the Rahah Foundation, co-Chairs the ASEAN Business Club and is a director of (non profit organisation) Endeavour (Malaysia) and MEPS.
Nazir is a Bachelor of Social Science graduate from the University of Bristol and has a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. In 2010 he served as the Chevening Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.
