BUSINESS TURNAROUND GURU, CARLOS GHOSN, SHARES INSIGHT INTO LEADING AND MANAGING IN MULTI-CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT

Kuala Lumpur, Friday, 21 March 2008 – Carlos Ghosn, President and Chief Executive Office of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. (“Nissan”) and Renault SA (“Renault”), today shared over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry and insights into managing and turning around ailing companies at the Khazanah Global Lectures (“KGL”) organised by Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”).

Mr. Ghosn is renowned for his radical and unorthodox methods that challenge traditional business practices. In the year 2000, he engineered one of the biggest turn around in automotive history by returning a nearly bankrupted Nissan into the black within a year.

According to Khazanah Managing Director, Dato’ Azman Hj. Mokhtar : “Carlos Ghosn is a modern day corporate hero who is synonymous with corporate turnarounds, transformation and cross-cultural management. As our companies undergo rapid change and internationalization, there are many lessons that we can learn from his experiences at both the firm and national levels,” Dato’ Azman added.

Besides over 700 local business leaders who attended the dinner lecture, the future generation of business leaders were also given the opportunity to listen and learn as the event was broadcasted live to four universities across Malaysia – Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

The KGL was inaugurated last year under the Khazanah Merdeka Series (“KMS”) banner with a talk by Nobel Laureate and former United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan. It also saw other influential speakers such as 2006 Nobel Prize Winner for Peace and the Founder and Managing Director of Grameen Bank, Professor Muhammad Yunus; 2001 Nobel Prize Winner for Economics and former Chief Economist of The World Bank, Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz and Malaysian Prime Minister Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Abdullah Hj. Ahmad Badawi.

With the theme “Development” each KGL speaker have shared their experience and ideas on International , Economic, Social, Holistic and Corporate development issues, while taking into consideration the nation’s past, present and future direction. These speakers were selected based on their wealth of experience, international stature and intellectual contribution to development.

Their insights and expertise will go some distance to extend the depth of knowledge building and sharing amongst Malaysians. Mr. Ghosn’s dinner-lecture will be the last KGL featured under KMS. The lecture series will however continue as an annual event to be held during the month of Merdeka.
