Prime Minister Commends Khazanah for Being Proactive and Upholding High Standards of Governance and Transparency.

Kuala Lumpur, 20 August 2026 Khazanah Nasional held its third Board of Directors meeting for 2026, chaired by Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, earlier today.

During that meeting, the Khazanah management briefed the Board on, among others, efforts to create more value in its investments as an active shareholder, to build a more resilient portfolio, and to drive governance throughout all its investee companies. In particular, despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, Khazanah’s long-term returns continues to exceed its targets.

Furthermore, in line with the GEAR-Up programme by the Ministry of Finance, Khazanah remained steadfast in its domestic direct investments along its four pillars of Transforming Firms, Energy Transition, Connectivity, and Digitalisation. In addition, the Board was updated on Khazanah’s societal value creation, via initiatives in capacity building and community development, such as the K-Youth programme, and efforts by Yayasan Hasanah.

Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Chairman of Khazanah, stated, “I commend the management of Khazanah for being proactive, thorough and upholding high standards of governance.”

During the meeting, by virtue of its governance standards, Khazanah also raised legacy issues that require resolution, in particular, with regards to Xeraya Capital, Khazanah’s wholly-owned subsidiary, founded in 2012, that manages Khazanah’s Life Sciences investments. In July 2026, the Xeraya Board, in fulfilling its governance oversight responsibilities, identified irregularities in documentation relating to past transactions that warranted further review.

Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated, “Upon the Board being made aware, I instructed the Khazanah management to initiate a forensic investigation to the highest standards of governance and due process and, where necessary, to bring in external authorities.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, “Overall, I am satisfied with the progress made by Khazanah and its management team, and I want to encourage them to continue in their journey of Advancing Malaysia by Raising the Ceiling, Raising the Floor while Upholding Good Governance, in line with the Ekonomi Madani principles.”
