Statement by Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad on Budget 2022

29 October 2021

Budget 2022, themed “Keluarga Malaysia, Makmur Bersama”, and tabled by the Finance Minister in Parliament today is the first Budget under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) unveiled by the Prime Minister last month.

Both Budget 2022 and RMK12 come at a time where Malaysia and the rest of the world are beginning to emerge from the global Covid-19 pandemic. As the saying goes, in every crisis there is opportunity, and Budget 2022 represents a seizing of the moment and the opportunity to build back Malaysia as we move further forward towards increasing normalcy and greater certainty.

In line with RMK12, Budget 2022 is a comprehensive approach in driving a strong and sustainable recovery for the economy whilst providing broad socioeconomic inclusivity and social protections. This can be seen via its priority placed on healthcare and education infrastructure on the one hand, and on investments in digital infrastructure and digital connectivity on the other. This approach will help to ensure that the entire Keluarga Malaysia, from individual citizens to business entities, emerges stronger together.

Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) and our investee companies look forward to playing our part in delivering the initiatives in Budget 2022 such as Jalinan GLC to strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the Malaysia Short-term Employment Programme (“MySTEP”) and PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia. Khazanah also remains committed to realising the goals of Perkukuh Pelaburan Rakyat (“PERKUKUH”) and to drive catalytic investments through the RM6 billion Dana Impak fund.

All in all, Budget 2022 promises to speed up Malaysia’s economic recovery and to strengthen economic resilience as the nation gradually re-opens its economic and social sectors. Budget 2022 measures, along with RMK12 policies, lay the foundation for Malaysia to grow into a competitive, inclusive, and sustainable economy in the long term.
