Prime Minister of Malaysia participates in Hari Hasanah
Khazanah Nasional, flagship foundations, investee companies, partners and staff get together to do good for others

Prime Minister Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak today participated in several activities to mark the inaugural Hari Hasanah, a day where Khazanah Nasional (“Khazanah”), together with Yayasan Hasanah, Yayasan Khazanah, Khazanah Research Institute, Think City, investee companies, partners and staff contributed time and effort to do good deeds for the benefit of others.

Hari Hasanah is one of the initiatives under Khazanah’s “Negaraku, Negara Kita” campaign, which celebrates and commemorates Malaysia’s journey and progress as a nation, in conjunction with Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia. The campaign is aligned with the national Negaraku campaign, and aims to promote and foster unity and patriotism among Malaysians through several initiatives such as Hari Hasanah.

Hari Hasanah at the Taman Tugu Project site
For Hari Hasanah, the Prime Minister first attended an event at the Taman Tugu Project site, where he helped plant a Belian tree, to underline the Government’s commitment to heritage and environmental conservation for the benefit of future generations of Malaysians. He also announced that Amanah Warisan Negara, a national public trust, will hold and manage the 66-acre Taman Tugu in perpetuity as an urban forest park for Malaysians to enjoy.

In addition, the Prime Minister announced that an additional 25 acres of land adjacent to Taman Tugu will be transferred to Amanah Warisan Negara, to be preserved into perpetuity as a public green space. He also announced a design competition for gazebos and benches to be placed in Taman Tugu. The competition is being organised in collaboration with Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia and will be open to all Malaysians.

The Taman Tugu Project was launched by the Prime Minister on September 4 last year. Consisting of four components, the project is scheduled to be fully completed by 2020, with the urban forest park component expected to be open to the public in 2019. The project is a Public-Private-Civil Society corporate responsibility initiative spearheaded by Khazanah, in collaboration with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and various partners from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organisations. Hari Hasanah at PPR Seri Semarak
Following the event at the Project Taman Tugu site, the Prime Minister proceeded to Projek Perumahan Rakyat (“PPR”) Seri Semarak in Setapak to join the residents for the Hari Hasanah event there, which attracted more than 3,000 people from the surrounding community. The event comprised various activities and a bazaar with free offerings for the community, provided by Yayasan Hasanah, Think City and their network of partners, as well as several Khazanah investee companies.

At the event, the Prime Minister also officially launched Cruyff Court Seri Semarak and Cruyff Court Kg. Baru Air Panas. The Cruyff Court programme is a collaboration between Yayasan Hasanah and Johan Cruyff Foundation to provide a unique football experience for children, youths and the surrounding community. The first Cruyff Court in Malaysia was launched in Kampung Melayu Majidee, Johor Bharu in 2012, followed by Cruyff Court Brickfields in Kuala Lumpur in 2013.

Khazanah Nasional Managing Director Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hj. Mokhtar said: “We are grateful that many people have come together for this first Hari Hasanah to do good deeds for the benefit of others. It shows that there is a great sense of togetherness among us and a deep appreciation for our shared nationhood. We intend to organise Hari Hasanah annually between Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia, with the hope that in the years to come, it will be become a national grassroots movement where we do good together, and help foster unity in our multi-cultural, multi-ethnic society.”

More than 100 initiatives in 12 states are being undertaken by various individuals, partners and organisations in conjunction with Hari Hasanah, including at the Taman Tugu Project site and PPR Seri Semarak today. In addition, all Khazanah staff are doing their own Hari Hasanah initiatives, either individually or in groups.
