Khazanah contributes RM10 million to aid flood relief and preparedness efforts
Prime Minister Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak today announced Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s (“Khazanah”) contribution totaling RM10 million to aid the on-going flood relief and recovery efforts in affected states, and flood preparedness initiatives to face potential disasters in the future. The contribution provides a boost to the various current efforts undertaken by several Government-linked Companies (“GLCs”) among Khazanah’s investee companies.
Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib, who is also Chairman of Khazanah, made the announcement after chairing the 69th Khazanah Board of Directors meeting held in Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya.
The RM10 million contribution is focused on two specific areas:
NSC heads the task force overseeing and coordinating all relief and recovery efforts in the flood-hit zones. In addition, it is also conducting a comprehensive assessment of these efforts to enhance and boost capabilities and preparedness for future flood-related crises. MERCY, meanwhile, is currently providing medical services, distribution of hygiene kits and emergency food rations, focusing currently in the worst hit areas of Pahang and Terengganu. MERCY has been a Civil Service Partner Organisation in this area with Khazanah since 2005.
The RM10 million contribution is in addition to assistance that has already been extended by Khazanah, as well as by various GLCs under Khazanah which include UEM Group, CIMB Group, Axiata Group Berhad, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia Airline System Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.
The assistance committed earlier is estimated to be worth approximately RM4.5 million collectively. It comprises various types of support over the course of the current relief and recovery efforts, including:
Khazanah Managing Director Tan Sri Azman Hj. Mokhtar said: “The health and safety of those affected by the floods is paramount. We hope that the contributions by Khazanah and our investee companies will help to ease the difficulties faced by the flood victims, and ensure an enhanced level of preparedness in the future.”
